Meet Team Fuzzy!

Sheila Schwarze - Top Dog

Sheila Schwarze - Top Dog

As the proud owner and operator of Fuzzy Friends Adventures, I have built a solid and reputable 24-year career of loving up on dogs. My motto is, “if you’re lucky enough to be loved by a dog, you’re lucky enough.” Hailing from Maryland, I was anxious to escape the Beltway rat race for the allure of the majestic Colorado mountains. My two life long passions are dogs and sports evidenced in an old home video showing me as a toddler scooting after my family dog, Buttons, and a soccer ball. Not much has changed as I still chase after every dog I see to say hi and is crazy addicted to pickleball these days!

My background in law enforcement and emergency vet care have served me well as I rely on my previous skills to keep my clients, dogs, and other multi-use trail users safe and conflict free. As a previous park ranger, I volunteer my time on the trails of Boulder trying to keep the peace so as to retain our off-leash trail hiking privileges by removing trash and dog waste. My time spent as an Animal Protection Officer in the nation’s capital left an indelible mark on me after witnessing the devastating consequences of overcrowded shelters. It was here that I became a staunch advocate for the “Adopt, Don’t Shop!” movement and have since adopted all six(6) of my amazing dogs from various shelters and rescue organizations, as well as fostered four(4) other dogs. I volunteer with American Brittany Rescue to help foster dogs, assist with transportation needs, and complete home checks for potential adopters. I am exceedingly grateful to live in Boulder, in a community of like-minded dog lovers!

Mickey Mouse - Chief Caboose Engineer

Mickey Mouse - Chief Caboose Engineer

Mouse holds the distinction for being Fuzzy Friends’ longest “employee.” With 10 years under his collar, his role as Chief Caboose Engineer is that of both friend and protector as he keeps the pack together bringing up the rear, making sure no dog gets left behind. He is an empathetic little soul and loves everyone he meets, and the feeling is definitely mutual.

Hailing all the way from the beautiful Virgin Islands, Mouse traded in his sandals for hiking boots long ago and has never looked back! Found wondering the tough streets of St. Croix, he was shot by a BB gun before becoming a “guest” of the shelter. As fate would have it, his future mom (Sheila) was visiting a friend on-island and popped into the shelter on a supply reconnaissance mission. It was love at first sight when they locked eyes on each other and finding him irresistible, she left the island with the greatest “souvenir” EVER! Even though he’s not native to Colorado, he says he got here as soon as he could. Join the club, Mouse!

Daniel the Spaniel - Lead Adventurer

Daniel the Spaniel - Lead Adventureer

Danny joined our team 9 years ago as our Lead Adventurer. Always at the front of the pack, he leads his posse on a 3+ mile course of fun, mischief, and adventure. As a bird dog, he often adds an element of surprise and delight to our outings as he hunts up birds, frogs, snakes (gah!), grasshoppers, and crayfish. The pack appreciates his adventurous spirit and good-natured personality.

Danny hails from Nebraska where he was the victim of irresponsible breeding practices. The breeders became overwhelmed with the extreme psychological trauma from which their dogs suffered from. They asked Brittany Rescue to step in to find homes for them, or they would have to euthanize all 50 dogs. Even though Brittany Rescue deemed this crew to be the most difficult and challenging rescue they’ve ever faced, they didn’t hesitate to take them in finding spur-of-the-moment foster homes, and then adopted them out one-by-one to loving homes. Rescue Rocks!!

Danny won the jackpot in life when his mom (Sheila) and brother Mouse adopted him into their family, accepting the daunting task of rehabilitating him. Danny was hands down the most psychologically damaged dog his mom had ever seen, but after years of hard, difficult work, he now knows a life filled with love, kindness and content. His days are filled with exercise, adventure, and socializing with all of his fuzzy friends. The kid has more of a social life than his mom!
